Teens get probation, suspended sentence for gold theft

A 15-year-old girl was placed under probation for three years and her 18-year-old boyfriend handed an 18-month jail term suspended for three years after pleading guilty to attempted theft from an apartment in Swieqi.

The two youths were arrested after being identified through CCTV cameras.

The girl was found to have managed to steal some €2,329 in gold and jewellery items from the apartment, and been recovered.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend Radwan Hijazi was charged for being her accomplice.

Another 16-year-old friend was also placed under probation after admitting in a separate charge that he attempted to forcefully enter the apartment next door. Magistrate Neville Camilleri presided.
