AD calls on Parliament to start debating divorce legislation now
Alternattiva Demokratika (AD) has appealed to all MPs in the House of Representatives to start debating divorce.
AD has presented its position in favour of divorce in a letter to the Social Affairs’ Committee chaired by Nationalist MP Edwin Vassallo.
“As a starting point, we presented with this proposal two divorce laws of two Catholic countries in the EU - Ireland and Italy,” AD chairperson Michael Briguglio said yesterday morning as he was addressing a press conference in front of the House of Representatives.
“Hence MPs now do not have an excuse not to start debating divorce,” the AD chairperson insisted.
AD has also written a letter to all MPs inviting them to start debating the divorce legislation in Parliament. “If MPs are going to procrastinate further and procrastinate further, then we would know for sure that none of the other parties really want to introduce this basic right,” Briguglio added.
Briguglio accused both the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party that they do not want really to present the divorce law in Parliament. “One of them is still living in the Middle Ages, while the other one is doing an exercise of deceit."
