The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) is stepping up its efforts against drug abuse within its ranks by increasing the frequency of random drug tests and the immediate dismissal of soldiers who test positive.

Sunday newspaper Illum is informed that up to five soldiers have been dismissed after testing positive. One of the dismissed soldiers is a former guard at the President's and Prime Minister's residences.

The soldier was caught taking crack in the toilets at the AFM's barracks in Safi.
