Driver cleared of injuring pedestrian
A young driver was cleared of causing serious and permanent injury to a pedestrian.
Anthony Bajada, 22 of Sliema was this morning acquitted of all charges brought against him by police, for having caused grievious and permanent injury to a pedestrian in Mosta in 2009.
The Court, presided by Magistrate Edwina Grima noted that the driver was not to blame for the accident that occurred in one of Malta's most busiest streets.
The pedestrian did not use a marked crossing, crossed to the centre of the road, and then attempted to cross the other half. The pedestrian could not be seen by Bajada as his view was obstructed by other traffic.
The Court ruled that Bajada was not to blame for the accident, given that the pedestrian caused an immediate emergency, leading the driver to have an accident and consequently hitting the pedestrian.
