Updated: Tarxien man in stable condition but still in danger of dying after jumping into sea
A 20-year-old Tarxien man has been hospitalised with serious injuries to his spine after jumping into the sea at the Kalanka area, limits of Marsaxlokk at around 11.45am. A police spokesperson told MaltaToday later in the afternoon that the man was now in a stable condition but was still in danger of dying.
Initial police investigations on site showed that the man found himself in difficulty at sea for some reason or another after having jumped into the sea. A Civil Protection Department (CPD) vessel had to be despatched on site to transfer the victim on shore. He was then transferred to an ambulance and transported to Mater Dei Hospital.
Initial medical reports indicated that the man had grievous injuries to his spine. He was still being examined by doctors at Mater Dei. On duty Magistrate Gabriella Vella has appointed a magisterial inquiry on the case. She has appointed various court experts to assist her in the inquiry about the matter. The police investigations on the case were still ongoing.
