UPDATED: Girl critical after being hit by car in Mellieha

A 9 year-old girl is reported to be in a critical condition after being hit by a car yesterday afternoon in Ghadira Bay.

Initial police investigations on site established that girl was with a 62 year-old woman relative and were both hit by an Audi car driven by a 27-year-old man from Rabat, Gozo.

The two women were taken to Mater Dei Hospital by two ambulance.

The road leading from Ghadira to Cirkewwa was closed to traffic for some hours causing severe congestion..

The duty Magistrate has ordered an inquiry while police investigations continue.
