Weekly newspaper Illum reports that a number of aviation security personnel stationed at the Malta International Airport are being threatened with redundancy should they not agree to a change in their working conditions.

The report reveals that G4S is attempting to downside the volume of airport security personnel stationed at them MIA during the winter months.

In order to do so, the security services company is attempting to convince the aviation security personnel stationed there to agree to a change in working conditions whereby they would be stationed at other sites that G4S's provides security for.

However the report says that the security personnel in question are opposing the change in working conditions.

In reaction, G4S has adopted a stance that can be considered threatening with regards to the employees, insisting that should they not consent, a number of employees - roughly half - would be made redundant.

The article also considers whether the volume of security staff stationed at the MIA would affect national security.
