Former police inspector is new operations director at Corradino

Emanuel Camilleri appointed CCF director of operations

The home affairs ministry has appointed Emanuel Camilleri, a former police inspector, to the role of acting director of operations at the Corradino Correctional Facility.

Camilleri takes up his post in the wake of the resignation of Abraham Zammit, following an inquiry into a number of prison warders who were not at their posts during a surprise visit by home affairs minister Emanuel Mallia.

The government will appoint another director to take care of correctional services at CCF.

Camilleri entered the police in 1976, moving up to the grade of sergeant in 1980 and finally as inspector in 1989. He left in 2002 after 25 years of service.

Camilleri was a teacher of personal & social development, and is a court-appointed expert in criminal matters. He has lectured at the University of Malta on domestic violence and human rights, and he holds degrees in criminology and human rights from the University of Malta, where he specialised in domestic violence cases in the Maltese courts.

Camilleri will serve as an observer on the prisons' reform board.

If today was 1st of April, I would have taken this news with a pinch of salt, but it ain't and I cannot comprehend this decision. Camilleri in the police is reported to have been such a lazy and expired inspector, not even a stick to a horse would have got him off and out of his chair, and work, and this when he was still in his late 40's, perhaps he has finally picked up speed in his 50's. Dr Mallia where you so scarce of names who would have befitted such appointment.! Sry this is a BIG minus!
