Minister for National Affairs Manuel Mallia this afternoon presented three new deputy commissioners with the task to oversee migration, districts and crime amongst other fields.

Appointees Raymond Zammit will be in charge of the police districts across Malta and Gozo, Pierre Calleja will be responsible for crime including CID, the vice quad and the drug squad while Andrew Seychell will be responsible for the immigration branch and the administration of the police.

"The appointments of these three men is part of the police's restructuring process that will see them replace outgoing deputy commissioner Joe Cachia," Mallia said.

Flanked by Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit, the minister expressed his confidence in the newly appointed deputies saying he has known them for years.

"The public does not need an introduction to these three men and their work within the police corps," Mallia said while praising the deputy's loyalty.

The "holistic" restructuring process will also see the appointments of numerous assistant commissioners, superintendents  and inspectors down the line of the police corps.

"I am convinced that the new deputy commissioners will serve the country's best interests," Mallia said.

Moreover, the minister paid tribute to outgoing deputy commissioner Joe Cachia who has now been given a new role within the corps as part of the restructuring process.
