The Nationalist Party has set up a financial oversight board that will monitor the party's financial and operational performance.

The board is headed by Franz Wirth while the members are Malcolm Custò, Isabelle Vella, Eugenio Privitelli and Mario Galea.

The appointment was made following recent amendments to the party statute.

The party is believed to be suffering from a deficit of millions, owing to an ambitious construction project for its new HQ, that led to the outsourcing of several of the party's operations.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said this was one of the steps to ensure that the party was run on professional lines, both politically and commercially. “The party is being rebuilt, and it is being rebuilt on firm foundations,” he said in party statement.

Wirth is director of finance and administration at Intercomp Malta.
