Archbishop Paul Cremona has made a request to the Vatican to be able to leave his position as the head of the Catholic church in Malta. If his request is approved, Cremone would be the first Maltese archbishop to resign before retirement age since the 19th century.

Four out of the six More Supermarket outlets are expected to close and jobs cut according to the owners' proposed restructing plan. The plan was presented to its creditors, who this newspaper says are eager to help the chain get back on its feet after being involved in the Ryan Schembri case, which saw about €40 million defrauded from various entities.

A Chinese delegation toured the present power stations on a visit to Malta to continue talks on the proposed power station project. Enemalta representatives met with Electrogas Malta and Shanghai Electric Power representatives.

Former health commissioner John Dalli and PN leader Simon Busuttil traded barbs over comments made by Busuttil in parliament. Dalli accused Busuttil of using parliament, and the immunity it gives him, “to conduct a dirty character assassination campaign”. Busuttil in turn said that Dalli owed the country an apology.
