In the Press: German man dies after hit-and-run incident in Sliema

All of today's front pages are dominated by reports of a horrific hit-and-run accident that yesterday claimed a German tourist's life. 42-year-old Rainer Mader was a repeat visitor to the island and was on the first day of his latest holiday here when he was struck by a car driven by a 36-year-old man from Zurrieq.

The Times of Malta

Some confusion as to the wording of the referendum question was laid to rest yesterday as PM Joseph Muscat announced that the question on the ballot will ask voters whether to retain the present hunting legal notice or not. Those in favour of retaining hunting would vote yes while those opposed would vote no.

In-Nazzjon

The MUMN has appealed to the health minister to address the overcrowding problem that is getting progressively worse. Surgical procedures are being cancelled as a result of a shortage of beds and a number of female patients, classed as social cases, are being kept in the male wards out of necessity.

L-Orizzont

Oman's leading bank, Bank Muscat, has sent a delegation to explore the possibility of investing in Malta. This newspaper reports that the financial services sector, the tourism sector and the real estate sector are being considered for this purpose.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said that the PN's stance on the spring hunting referendum would be decided after an internal discussion on the matter. He also criticized PM Joseph Muscat for declaring his position on the matter of spring hunting and for deciding on the date for the referendum, something the President should have done.
