The Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM) have retained control over the University Students Council (KSU), winning 1,950 votes in Thursday’s annual student council elections.

Fellow student organisation Pulse won 985 votes while 16 votes were deemed invalid.

Voter turn-out was low once again, with only 3,855 students (27.99% of the electorate) casting their votes, less than the 4,161 students (32.6%) who had done so last year.

The results mean that Rebecca Micallef is KSU’s new President, with Andrew Borg Wirth their new Vice-President and Andrew Muscat their new secretary general.

Emma Portelli Bonnici becomes their social policy coordinator, Gilbert Amato Gauci their culture and entertainment officer, Steph Dalli their culture and entertainment coordinator, Philip Mizzi their financial officer, Mark Trapani their international officer, Becky Dalli their international coordinator,  Daniel Vella their public relations officer, and Ryan Falzon their education officer.
