Temu agreement aims to simplify environmental compliance for Malta sellers
Temu enters into partnership with WEEE Malta and Green MT to reduce operational complexity and support local waste management systems
Temu has partnered with WEEE Malta and Green MT to help sellers meet Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations in Malta, which require companies placing products or packaging on the market to contribute to their collection, recycling and proper disposal.
WEEE Malta deals with waste from electrical and electronic equipment, while Green MT focuses on packaging waste, with both organisations responsible for helping businesses meet their environmental responsibilities under Malta’s waste-management framework.
Through their partnership with Temu, the organisations aim to reduce operational complexity and support local waste management systems by streamlining key compliance processes for sellers including registration, reporting, and eco-contribution payments.
“This collaboration provides sellers with a more straightforward pathway to meet local compliance requirements,” a Temu spokesperson said, noting that the company has established agreements with over 50 licensed producer responsibility organisations across the European Union.
Chief Operations Officer of WEEE Malta Sergio Mallia said the agreement will help create a more accessible compliance pathway while contributing to the sustainable growth of the e-commerce sector in Malta.
“This collaboration is a significant step forward in empowering all sellers to succeed in Malta,” Malta Chamber of SMEs President Paul Abela said. “By championing high standards together, we are creating a vibrant, balanced marketplace where all market participants can thrive responsibly.”
