Opposition leader Simon Busuttil called for clarity on the governmet’s plans for the health sector, arguing that the uncertainty is a very strong cause for concern for its workers.

"Workers deserve to know whether they will be keeping their jobs or not, " Busuttil said, referring to rumours that the Gozo Hospital would be privatised.

He was speaking during a tour of the Gozo General Hospital to mark Workers’ Day.

"We noticed a lot of developments in Gozo but we feel that we have a duty to voice workers concerns about the lack of clarity,” he said.

Referring to the Bart’s medical school investment, Busuttil said that, after the investment had been announced, it was later revealed that contracts had not yet been finalised.

Busuttil also took some time to thank workers of the public health sector whose services were so constantly needed.

"It is very opportune that we came to thank these hard workers on this day as it is dedicated to all workers," he added.

Busuttil was accompanied by shadow health minister Claudette Buttigieg, health parliamentary secretary Chris Fearne and shadow employment minister Therese Comodini Cachia.
