Former Labour party treasurer and candidate Joe Sammut is under investigation for allegedly setting up fictitious companies in order to obtain residence permits for Libyan nationals. Sources say that the companies never traded in Malta, raising suspicions about the invoices submitted the existence of stocks.

A young Maltese tourist lost her life over the weekend when she drowned in a river while hiking in Austria. The 11-year-old got separated from her parents and brother and her body was later found by rescue services.

Raymond Camilleri, Director General of the government's property division, has resigned. In his resignation, Camilleri said that his decision was based on 'personal reasons' and the fact that a lack of resources and communication was negatively affecting his ability to work. The resignation comes during an investigation into the government's expropriation of a property owned by Marco Gaffarena for €1.65 million.
