In the Press: Muscat reacts to Opposition's budget critique

PM Joseph Muscat delivered a two-hour speech yesterday, during which he promised that the government would do better on environmental issues and taking the Opposition to task on several of the points Simon Busuttil made during his reaction to the 2016 budget. 

The Times of Malta

The PM said he hoped that the Opposition's pledge - to buy energy from the cheapest sources, potentially ignoring an 18-year deal with Electrogas - was a 'knee-jerk reaction' as the proposal would lead to higher utilities bills and more pollution.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil called the PM's speech, in reaction to Busuttil's own intervention in parliament, 'all bluff and no substance' and confirmed that Muscat would refuse to lower utility bills.

The GWU has expressed satisfaction at the govenrment's guarantee to Gozo General hospital staff that they would be keeping their jobs as well as be provided with further training.

In his parliamentary speech, PM Joseph Muscat said that Malta could match the success of countries such as Singapore and Luxembourg and might even surpass them as the government strives to make Malta 'future ready'.
