Billboards advestising the opening of a casino in December have been taken down as the decision on the development is not due to take place until April. The Eden Leisure Group have yet to be granted a Mepa permit to redevelop the basement of the Intercontinenal Hotel in Paceville and a license to operate from the gaming authority.

Vitalis Global Healthcare will be rennovating and running three hospitals - Gozo General, St Luke's and Karin Grech - for the next three decades. Extensive rehabilitation of the St Luke's premises as well as the replacement of obsolete technology are required and it is understood that the company is in the final planning stages.

The European Commission expects the Maltese economy to grow by 4.3% by the end of the year, which would signal Malta's largest economic growth in the past decade.

A Maltese scientist has helped to develop a blood test that can determine whether prostate cancer sufferers are likely to respond to a particular treatment. Dr Gerhardt Attard, at the Institute of Cancer Research in London, said that the test detected the presence or absence of mutation of male hormone receptors, which determine whether the abiraterone drug is effective on shrinking tumours.
