In the Press: Pilots' union directive delays Air Malta flight

An unannounced pilots' union directive, issued on Tuesday, delayed an Air Malta flight to Heathrow by two hours, incensing cabin crew. The airline pilots' union said that dispute, over pilots' rosters, was the fault of bad management.

Front Harsien ODZ has made a formal request to the local governance board, asking for M'skala mayor Mario Calleja to be investigated after he made statements about a barter deal he made with Sadeen Group, who promised to build new local council premises in return for the council's go-ahead on the controversial Zonqor point project.

Air Malta paid over €14 million in consultants' fees between 2008 and 2013. Tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis, replying to parliamentary questions, also said that management salaries between 2010 and 2013 amounted to almost €5 million.

The first batch of 50 De la Rue workers are expected to be made redundant next April, with 15 of those to be offered the opportunity to be redeployed within the same company. 300 workers will be dismissed over a three-year period.
