Alternattiva Demokratika has today unanimously accepted the resignation of the party’s former chairperson Michael Briguglio and urged him to resign as AD representative on the Sliema local council.

Briguglio had notified the party’s secretary general Ralph Cassar by email on 4 May of his decision to resign his membership in the AD.

Cassar today informed him that his resignation had been unanimously approved.

He also extolled Briguglio to immediately submit his resignation from AD representative on the Sliema local council.

Responding to Cassar’s request, Briguglio insisted that he will retain his post within the Sliema local council.

“I will keep representing my Sliema local council constituents who have been electing me since 2003, and that I will responsibly work in the interest of all Sliema residents,” he said.

Briguglio became an outspoken supporter of the Forza Nazzjonali in the run-up to the 3 June general election and even addressed a Nationalist Party mass meeting in Zabbar on 21 May.

Briguglio to stay on as independent councillor

In a short reaction, Briguglio thank Cassar for accepting his resignation, adding that it had been a pleasure to represent AD at the Sliema Local Council.

"I am pleased to inform you that I will keep representing my Sliema local council constituents who have been electing me since 2003, and that I will responsibly work in the interest  of all Sliema residents," wrote Briguglio.
