Birkirkara suffer first defeat against Sliema

Birkirkara suffered their first defeat of the season against Sliema Wanderers yesterday evening. Sliema scored early in the first half to seal a 3-1 victory over the Stripes.

Sliema pressed right after the referee blew the whistle to start the match and managed to score on the seventh minute.

Off a perfect cross by Luca Martinelli, Ivan Woods made no mistake with his shot to beat goalkeeper Reuben Gauci to give his team the lead.

On the 13th minute, Matias Muchardi doubled the score for Sliema when he received a pass from Ariel Laudisi and beat the goalkeeper with his low shot.

As the first half ended with Sliema having a two goal lead over Birkirkara, Sliema did not waste any time in the second half as they scored the their third goal just three minutes after the restart.

Off a corner by Paltemio Barbetti, Alex Muscat scored form close range to make it 3-0.

Birkirkara managed to get on the scoreboard on the 55th minute. Shola Shodiya served Rowen Muscat who then went on to beat goalkeeper Henry Bonello with his shot.

Ariel Laudisi was voted BOV Player of the Match.
