Sliema defeat ten-man Rabat Ajax

Sliema Wanderers defeated Rabat Ajax 2-0 yesterday evening thanks to two late goals by Luigi Ruggiero late in the match.

In six matches, Sliema have now won three while Rabat Ajax have more to worry about as they are till without a win this season.

With both teams having few chances in the first half, Sliema came close to scoring on the on the 50th minute when off a cross by Alex Muscat, Luigi Ruggiero hit the woodwork with his shot.

Rabat came close to scoring on the 68th minute when Manuel Moral Fuster's freekick was partially saved by Henry Bonello and the ball was cleared before going into goal.

Sliema immediately replied when Matius Muchardi's shot went wide.

The match turned for the worse for Rabat on the 78th minute wen they were reduced to ten-men. Clive Brincat received a second yellow card for handling the ball.

Sliema's pressure on Rabat finally paid off when on the 84th minute when Luigi Ruggiero advanced inside the area to beat goalkeeper Jonathan Azzopardi with his shot to give Sliema the lead.

In added times, Ruggiero made it 2-0 when he shot the ball over goalkeeper Jonathan Azzopardi to score.

Matias Muchardi was voted BOV Player of the Match.
