Derby victory for Valletta

Champions Valletta are virtually unbeatable this season as they defeated rivals Floriana 2-0.

Valletta now sit on top of the BOV Premier League standings with a comfortable six point cushion ahead of Birkikara.

The situation does not look so good for Floriana as against Valletta they suffered their third defeat in five matches. Floriana now sit in ninth place in the standings.

New Floriana coach Stephen Azzopardi has a lot of work to do if he wants to see his side climb up the standings this season.

Valletta immediately showed their dominance at the beginning of the match and managed to go ahead on the 31st minute.

A great pass by William Barbosa was received by Michael Mifsud, who then progressed inside the penalty area and beat goalkeeper Tony Warner with his shot.

The first have ended with Valletta ahead by one goal.

The second half started the same way as the first, with Valletta on the attack.

On the 60th minute, Michael Mifsud had a great scoring opportunity, but he would be denied by the woodwork.

Valletta's dominance prevailed when they made it 2-0. This time it would be Joao Gabriel da Silva who would beat goalkeeper Tony Warner with his rising shot.

Michael Mifsud was voted BOV Player of the Match.
