Blades win triangular tournament in Malta
Sheffield United FC yesterday won in spectacular fashion the JPL Cisk Lager Cup in front of 350 visiting fans at the Hibernians Ground.
Richard Cresswell and the recently-signed Maltese national team player Daniel Bogdanovic were among the goals as United concluded their pre-season trip to Malta.
The tournament was a round-robin event involving the Blades, Hibernians and Vittoriosa Stars, with games lasting 45 minutes. Cresswell headed the only goal from Mark Yeates's corner as United beat Vittoriosa Stars FC 1-0.
Then Bogdanovic slotted home an early penalty against Hibernians FC in the final, after the hosts had beaten Vittoriosa 3-1 on penalties after drawing their encounter.
Left-back Phil Roe won the penalty with a burst into the penalty area before Jordan Chappell sealed the win with a long-range effort for the Blades to win 2-0 against Hibernians FC.
Kingsley James was another youngster to impress on a muggy evening.
But it was the fact that his players left the Mediterranean without any serious injuries that will have pleased Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell the most.
