In a match that produced two red cards and plenty of cautions, Valletta had to work hard to go through Mosta’s well organised defence.

Edmond Lufi’s side ended up in ten men after eleven minutes. Chinedu Oweregbulam committed a poor challenge on Jhonnattann that resulted in a straight red card.

The first good opportunity on goal came for Valletta. Rodrick Briffa received from Jhonnattan, and fired a shot from distance. However, Manuel Bartolo produced a fine save to deny his former team-mate.

Having an extra player, Valletta pushed forward in their attempt to go ahead. Santiago Malano tried his luck from distance, but Bartolo was alert to deny his former club once again.

Despite Valletta’s efforts, Mosta’s defence remained organised, with the first half ending 0-0.

Three minutes into the second half, Valletta ended up in ten men. Pani committed a challenge on Adrian Caruana that was judged as serious foul play by Malcolm Spiteri, as he showed him a straight red card.

On the 50th minute, Valletta were close to open the score. From Jhonnattan’s freekick, Bartolo failed to hold the ball. The ball fell for Ramao, who headed high.

Mosta responded few minutes later when Priso fired a shot from the edge of the box that was neutralised by Henry Bonello.

On the 56th minute, the citizens went ahead. Jhonnattann was brought down by Kurt Magro inside the penalty, and Spiteri pointed to the spot. From the spot kick, the Brazilian finished behind Bartolo.

Valletta had another good opportunity on goal after Aguirre’s cross found Mifsud, who was anticipated by Djoufack. Jhonnattann took control of the ball, but his shot ended up wide.

Throughout the remaining minutes, Valletta managed to keep their minimum advantage to collect another three points.

The match was controlled by Malcolm Spiteri.
