Ghedin insists that England’s match is about pride

Ghedin started his address to the media by stating that the match against England is very tough as they will be playing against one of the best teams in Europe. He continued by stating that whilst England are top of the group, Malta sits at the bottom and therefore, the Maltese players should play for their pride against a well renowned side.

With regards to the squad, Ghedin stated the he has no problems as nearly all the players are available except Alfred Effiong who is suspended. In relation to this, Ghedin argued that Effiong’s suspension is not an issue as Jean Paul Farrugia is doing so well with his club and deserves the chance to play in Malta’s attack.

When asked by Malta Today whether we will see a more offensive approach with players such as Andre Schembri and Farrugia who are doing so well at the moment, Ghedin insisted that it is up to England:

"We will try to attack, but it is up to England. They play so well and run for the whole ninety minutes. If they give us space, we will try to attack”.

After Ghedin, Schembri and Sam Magri also addressed the press. Schembri stated that as one of the senior players in the squad, he feels responsible to help his team mates to rise to the occasion.

On the other hand, Sam Magri said that this game is personal to him as he is half English. However, he insisted that now he is playing for Malta and will give his best in tomorrow’s match.

Malta will face England tomorrow at the National Stadium, kick off at 8.45 pm.
