Valletta started well and had a goal disallowed after eleven minutes. Following a free-kick, Ibrahim Saleh received the ball and hit a shot that went inside the net. However, the referee cancelled the goal due to a foul that took place inside the penalty area.

Hibs hit back on the 21st minute. Jurgen Degabriele managed to go round Henry Bonello but saw his shot hitting the side netting.

Four minutes later, Valletta went close when Matteo Piciollo fired a shot that was saved by Andrew Hogg.

Hogg was on the alert once more on the 31st minute. Steve Borg hit a powerful drive which the Hibs goalkeeper blocked.

Zoran Popovic’s side started the second half on the attack and created another chance on the 48th minute. Denni Roch Dos Santos sent a shot from distance that sailed wide.

Two minutes later, Valletta threatened again. Joseph Zerafa served Kyrian Nwoko and the latter forced another save from Hogg.

Valletta were reduced to ten men on the 56th minute as Malcolm Spiteri showed Zerafa his second yellow card.

Hibs tried to take an advantage and had a good chance on the hour mark when Degabriele saw his effort being saved by  Bonello.

On the 78th minute, Jackson Lima of Hibernians sent a shot that went slightly wide.

In the remaining minutes, the Paolites could not break Valletta’s defence and the game ended in a goalless draw.
