The 16km trail run was held at Elton Hall and included over 25 obstacles spread throughout the course, which included, amongst others, crawling under barbed wire, climbing over walls, climbing ropes, carrying logs, sandbags and stones, traversing monkey bars, wading through water and mud.

Being his first race abroad, Nicky faced some logistical challenges as well as having to adapt to running on muddy terrain for which the Maltese summer provided no suitable training opportunity. However he gave a strong performance and completed the race in 1 hour 45 minutes and 37 seconds to finish the race 30th overall out of 1,483 participants. This is a very encouraging result considering that most athletes in the Elite category were seasoned obstacle course racers with some having also qualified for the Spartan European Championships.

Nicky competed in his first ever obstacle course race (OCR), The Grid, here in Malta, which was held in June this year. Following his positive result therein, having placed 9th overall, he set his sights on the Spartan Race series, which is among the most competitive forms of OCR. Following his excellent performance in the Peterborough Super race, Nicky will now be preparing to obtain the Spartan Trifecta in 2017. This can be achieved by completing a Spartan Sprint (over 5km & 20+ obstacles), a Spartan Super (over 13km & 25+ obstacles) and a Spartan Beast (over 21km & 30+ obstacles) in the same calendar year.
