Marsalforn valley is "full of life again" following the return of six mute swans that had sought refuge in the valley on Sunday but flew later on away Monday, according to Bird Life Malta.

In post on their Facebook page, the NGO said that the swans that had earlier left the area have now returned to feed in the artificial reservoir which "they have transformed into their home."

"[The swans] had flown away in the direction of Xaghra [but] have now re-joined the rest of the birds and settled once more in the water," read the post.

On Monday, Police had been called to secure the artificial dam in Marsalforn, Gozo, following the damm becoming the temporary refuge of 12 mute swans, BirdLife Malta said on Monday.

The official security became necessary after hundreds of people visited the site when the presence of the four adult and eight juvenile swans became known.

The swans are believed to have arrived on Sunday after fleeing the cold weather in Europe.

The reservoir is currently full to the brim with the last few days’ rainfall, providing an ideal habitat for the swans.
