Coffee barbecue sauce

Ingredients

  • ½ cups strong-brewed coffee
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ¾ cups firmly-packed brown sugar
  • ½ cups apple cider vinegar
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • ½ cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp ground cumin
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp Sriracha or Tabasco sauce

Method

  1. To make the coffee barbecue sauce, stir all ingredients into a medium sauce pan.
  2. Bring to simmer then reduce the heat to low until flavours meld (approx. 40 mins) stirring occasionally.
  3. Cool to room temperature and serve with fries or smother over a steak sangwicc.

The BBQ sauce will keep for approx. 2 weeks in the fridge.
