Lilu King could face deportation
Lilu King could face deportation to Libya as Maltese and Libyan authorities hold discussions amid ongoing criminal proceedings
Ali Ahmed Elmushraty known as “Lilu King” could face deportation from Malta as Maltese authorities and the Libyan government in Tripoli discuss his possible return to Libya.
Elmushraty is wanted in Libya. In Malta, he had previously applied for asylum and refugee protection, but his request was rejected.
Communication regarding the possible deportation is taking place with Libya’s Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour.
Elmushraty’s lawyers have consistently opposed any attempt to deport him, arguing that he faces persecution in Libya. It is understood that if deportation proceedings move forward, the defence is expected to challenge the move in court, leaving the final decision in the hands of the judiciary.
Apart from the Libyan proceedings, Elmushraty is also facing criminal charges in Malta, including allegations related to money laundering and involvement in organised crime.
He was recently charged in connection with a case in which a man was allegedly held against his will and sexually abused. During court proceedings on Thursday, police testified that the alleged victim in the case has been subjected to threats and financial offers aimed at persuading him not to testify against the accused.
The self-fashioned "King of Paceville" was charged with money laundering, tax evasion, and participation in organised crime, after which he spent nine months in preventive custody. The AG had later filed drug trafficking charges against him.
