European Digital Identity wallet tender issued
Project will introduce a secure digital identity solution designed to give citizens and residents easier access to public and private services while allowing them greater control over how their personal information is shared, ministry says
The Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) has issued a call for tenders for the implementation of Malta's European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet.
The call marks a significant step in the country's digital transformation and the rollout of the European Digital Identity Framework.
The project will introduce a secure digital identity solution designed to give citizens and residents easier access to public and private services while allowing them greater control over how their personal information is shared.
Once implemented, the EUDI Wallet will enable users to securely prove their identity both online and in person, verify their age where required, store official documents such as driving licences, and electronically sign documents. The wallet will be recognised in Malta and across European Union member states.
The MDIA has been tasked with leading the implementation of Malta's EUDI Wallet and will oversee the development of the platform and the supporting systems needed to ensure its security and interoperability with digital identity systems across the EU.
Minister Silvio Schembri said the initiative demonstrates the government's commitment to using innovative technologies to improve everyday services while strengthening Malta's position as a digitally advanced nation.
"This initiative reflects our commitment to embracing innovative technologies that enhance everyday experiences and strengthen Malta's position as a digitally advanced nation," Schembri said.
MDIA Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Brincat said the project shows how technology can be used to deliver secure, trusted and citizen-focused digital services.
"This project is a tangible example of how innovative technology can be used to create services that are more secure, trustworthy and focused on the needs of citizens," Brincat said.
The call for tenders is open through the Government’s electronic Public Procurement System (ePPS) until Thursday 3 September. Those interested can apply here.
