Elderly woman robbed while walking in Birkirkara, suspect arrested

A man was arrested after allegedly robbing an elderly woman while she was walking in Birkirkara on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at around 7pm on Triq Santa Lieni, when the 81-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by a man dressed in black.

The man snatched her handbag before fleeing the scene.

The woman, who was not injured, immediately went to the police station and reported the robbery.

Police investigations, including an analysis of security footage from the area, identified the alleged thief as a 36-year-old man from Qormi.

He was arrested on Wednesday and is currently being held at the police lock-up in Floriana pending further investigations.

The man is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
