The police called off the search in Mellieha after bringing in the Armed Forces of Malta's Alouette helicopter for an aerial search, as well as a maritime search using an AFM dinghy.

Civil Protection Department volunteers also assisted in the search. The operation was led by CPD officers Frank Axiaq and Tonio Portelli.

The man’s car, an Opel Zafira, was found outside the chapel on top of the cliffs.

Grixti is a chief officer at Wasteserv, the national waste agency.
