Policeman seriously injured while breaking up fight

Rapid Intervention Unit called to subdue a fight in a hotel

A police officer was seriously injured in the course of his duties earlier this morning when the Rapid Intervention Unit was called to break up a fight. 

Five foreigners were involved in an altercation at about 1:30am at a hotel in Triq il-Marfa, Mellieha. A French couple, the man aged 47 and the woman aged 20, were involved in a fight with three British nationals, two women aged 73 and 54, and one man aged 34. 

The officer was injured while attempting to control the situation. The French man and the English individuals suffered slight injuries. 

The French couple was held for questionning.
