Man slightly injured in failed hold-up

Thief forced to leave betting shop empty-handed after a struggle and is being sought by police

A 23 year-old man from San Gwann has been injured during an attempted armed robbery from a gaming outlet today at about 1225hrs in Triq il-Mosta, St Paul’s Bay.

Police state that whilst the employee was in the outlet, an unidentified and masked individual, entered the shop and threatened the man with what appeared to be a firearm, demanding cash. The employee refused and the robber struck him with the weapon. The firearm was not discharged, said police, but the 23 year-old was taken to hospital for treatment. Police say the man did not appear to be seriously injured.

The robbery was unsuccessful and the would-be thief left the shop empty handed.

Police investigations are underway.
