Man charged with attempted murder over Marsa stabbing

Ahmed Mohamed remanded in custody after being charged with attempting to stab another man to death.

28-year-old Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed has been remanded in custody following a court appearing this morning, in which he was charged with attempting to stab another man to death.

Mohamed, who lives in Marsaskala, was arraigned before magistrate Monica Vella earlier today. Police Inspector Jeffrey Scicluna charged the Somali national with the attempted homicide of Mursal Aden Diriye. 

Diriye was certified as having suffered grievous injuries when he was stabbed multiple times with a sharp and pointed instrument at Xatt il-Mollijiet in Marsa on 24 March.

His alleged assailant was also charged with grievous bodily harm, possesion of a weapon during the commission of a crime against the person, carrying a knife in public without a licence and breaching the peace.

Defence lawyer Martin Fenech entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of the accused. Bail was not granted.
