Momentum pledges adoption of alternative construction methods
Momentum calls for the immediate adoption of alternative construction methods to address rising mental health distress and reduce unnecessary risk exposure for workers
Momentum has called for the immediate adoption of alternative construction methods to address rising mental health distress and reduce unnecessary risk exposure for workers.
Citing what it described as “too much construction” and the health risks linked to current industry practices, the party urged a shift towards low-impact machinery and modern excavation and demolition techniques.
Momentum said the current construction climate relies heavily on equipment and methods that generate significant noise and vibration, leading to long-term physical and psychological harm for workers, while also contributing to chronic stress among residents.
The party argued that investment in modern construction methods could lead to enhanced worker safety by reducing the risk of vibration-induced disabilities and hearing loss. It also said quieter neighbourhoods would improve the mental wellbeing of residents by lowering stress levels.
Momentum candidate for the 7 and 10districts, Pierre Schembri-Wismayer, said the technology needed to improve quality of life was already available.
“It is time to prioritise health over outdated, harmful methods,” Schembri-Wismayer said.
