Labour’s ‘Courage to Vote’ gets its much deserved response

The obvious faux-working class response to Labour's middle class baiting ‘Courage to Vote’ electoral ad goes online.

Well, it had to happen.

Actors Joe Depasquale, Alba Florian Viton, Maxine Calleja Urry, David Chircop and Matt Bonanno spoof that much-maligned electoral ad that was Labour's 'Courage to Vote.

Here's the original video, by the way and MaltaToday's treatment of the ad just days after it was released.

Blaspheming, drugs, foul language, lack of morality and ethics, etc are true on both sides, whether blue or red. One only needs to visit Paceville on Saturday night and then one can see for oneself! But then, with a government that has endorsed provocation, lack of morality and ethics what can one expect? 5 years ago we had a son of a well-known blogger who i used foul language at uni, in front of the cameras, and he was excused as being young. And he surely was not Lejber!

You think it's funny? WQhere is the humour? Simply disgusting.

@GiorgioMalteser The whole point (and the humour to it) is that it was meant to be realistic! In fact a friend told me it was just like his neighbours in the village he where lives! :-)

These 2 ADS reflect the thinking of the 2 political parties in Malta. The PN advertising tries to portray every one supporting the PL as lower class without manners and full of disgraceful language and criminal intentions. It is an insult to the Maltese electorate. While the PL advert portrays PN supporters as well educated, patriotic and really concerned about the lies, corruption and collusion that resulted from their voting support. An clear illustration between a mentality of a moderate & progressive movement and an old PN party mentality in disarray. Clutching to its final straw as they watch their ship “Corruption& Collusion” sinking to the depths of despair by trying to revive that cowboy mentality they supported while in opposition in the 1980’s. One would hope that this is not a reflection of what they are prepared to do if they loose the election, fearful of being exposed as more tales of corruption, nepotism, collusion and fraud.

For us Labour supporters of Sliema the two videos make perfect sense. A comprehensive percentage of Sliema people are working class. Lately some are finding it hard to make ends meets. So much so that they host foreign students and English language schools are filled with pensioners as teachers. There is no harm at all in this but these same people play the haughty and mighty to ape the high class. They exhibit this by disdaining the Maltese language and communicate in English with various levels of proficiency. When they lose their cool they resort to the swearing in the vernacular. They consider us Labourites as the scum of the earth and would not vote Labour even to save their souls. My own children were ostracised by their cousins and friends who labelled them robots just because they went to a government school. Those Nationalist (Not all) having the illusion of being high class are xenophobic about Labour as we are children of a lesser god. That sorry excuse for satire proves my point. Are all Labour supporters morons as depicted in the video? Yes for the PN voter who bases his/her vote on class that is what we are. The bottom line is that truth hurts and whilst Labour’s video is a realistic caricature the other is a churlish exercise in bad taste an obsolete cliché, an obloquy for Labourites. Just one last thing, Mintoff for us is an icon now that he is no more please let him rest in peace.

Quite brilliant! A bit too much swearing, but probably realistic! :-)
