Demolition and excavation works within touristic areas have been prohibited for the period between 15 June and 30 September 2024.

“The enforcement of Subsidiary Legislation 623.08 is one way to mitigate the inconvenience that construction sites have both on the tourism industry and on the number of Maltese families who go to live in these areas. The demolition and excavation phases of a construction site are inconvenient for the surrounding residences,” the statement read.

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) announced that works have been halted at a number of sites including St Paul’s Bay, St Julian’s, Valletta, Gozo and Sliema.

The full list of localities and streets where demolition or excavation works are prohibited during the summer months may be found here.

Any illegal works carried out in this period, in the identified locations may be reported to the Building and Construction Authority on 8004 9000 or on 99637508 for Malta and 99098855 for Gozo.
