Video | Guido de Marco remembered at United Nations in New York

Italian under-secretary for foreign affairs Vincenzo Scotti remembers former President of the Republic Guido de Marco who served as President of the UN General Assembly between 1990 and 1991.

Presenting his biography in New York last week on the margins of the UN General Assembly, Vincenzo Scotti addressed a symposium entitled  “Two Mediterranean Statesmen at the Helm of the UN: Amintore Fanfani and Guido de Marco.”

He speaks about the United Nations of today and yesterday, cities in the context of an integration process, the centrality of Italy’s parliament, and other topics

Scotti's biography speaks for itself; it’s a mix of important political positions and intense academic work. He has been a leader of Italy’s Christian Democracy Party (DC), has directed several Italian governmental ministries, both interior and foreign, from labour to cultural and many others. Among government heads with whom he has worked, there are prominent names from the first republic: Andreotti, Cossiga, Forlani, Spadolini, Amato.

He founded, among other things, in collaboration with the late Judge Giovanni Falcone and then U.S. Attorney Rudolph Giuliani, the DIA (Anti-Mafia Investigation Department), very important for the international fight against the mafia.
