New social housing units given thumbs up

Proposed site was not included in the 2006 rationalization plans

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) board earlier today approved a planning application for the construction of 46 dwelling units with underlying car park facilities at Triq Wied il-Knejjes, Ħal Luqa.

The MEPA board cited that although the site fell within the Public Safety Zone of the Airport, the Malta Civil Aviation had confirmed that the building height will not create any danger or interfere with any incoming or outgoing air traffic.

Additionally, the Board also considered and noted that while the applicant was assuming sole responsible for this development being is close proximity to the airport, the site was within the development boundaries and in accordance with all Planning and Environment policies. This site, which had been granted an outline development permit in 2005, was not included in the 2006 rationalization exercise.

The MEPA Board also approved a full development application for the re-paving of the Birgu intramural areas including the restoration of existing hard stone paved areas. This consists of manually removing the paving and constituted with a new hard stone similar to the original paving of the streets.

In its vicinity, in a separate application the MEPA board also approved the dismantling and rebuilding of masonry gardjola, sally port lift, and sanctioning of excavation of services trench at Thalasso Therapy Centre, Fort St Angelo, Birgu.

The board also approved the Construction Management Plan and Noise Base Line Construction of vehicular underpass from December 13th to Menqa limits of Marsa.
