‘We will not tolerate St. Patrick’s Day traffic chaos’ – Sliema council

The Sliema local council says it has been excluded from traffic management talks for upcoming St Patrick’s Day festivities.

In a statement on Saturday, the council said it attended two meetings with Transport Malta about the traffic flows for upcoming St Patrick’s Day street parties.

The council said it discussed and proposed various measures to mitigate congestion, especially due to ongoing road works in several streets.

“However, we regret to inform residents that for the final meeting held to conclude these discussions, the Sliema local council was intentionally sidelined and not invited, for reasons which remain unknown to us,” it said.

The council said it should be involved in any decisions that affect the traffic flow, safety and well-being of Sliema residents.

“The interests and concerns of our residents must always remain at the forefront of any decisions affecting our locality.”

Thousands of people congregate in St Julian’s every year for St Patrick’s Day celebrations, with street parties forcing road closues and diversions.

The St Julian’s council already shared information about bus diversions for affected routes.
