Low-pressure system to bring wind, cooler temperatures and isolated showers
Depression forming over the central Mediterranean expected to bring gusty winds, seasonal temperatures and scattered showers later this week
A developing low-pressure system over the Mediterranean is expected to bring windy conditions, cooler temperatures and isolated showers to Malta in the coming days, according to the Malta Meteorological Office.
Meteorologists said a trough of low pressure is currently stretching from the eastern to the central Mediterranean, with a depression forecast to form and intensify over the Gulf of Genoa on Wednesday. The system is then expected to extend across the central Mediterranean before moving towards the Balkans.
On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to range between 11°C and 17°C, with north-northwesterly winds at force 5 strengthening to west-northwesterly force 5 to 6 later in the day.
Conditions are set to remain similar on Thursday, with temperatures between 10°C and 18°C. Winds will initially blow from a westerly direction at force 4 to 5, increasing to force 6 to 7 from the west-northwest.
The expected temperatures are broadly in line with March climate norms, which average around 17.4°C for daytime highs and 10.9°C for nighttime lows.
Isolated showers are forecast for Friday and Saturday, accompanied by continued windy conditions.
So far, 32.2mm of rainfall has been recorded this month at Luqa Airport.
The Meteorological Office advised the public to check its official website for updates, noting that forecasts may change in the coming days.
