Government planning to spread courtrooms around Valletta

The Justice Ministry is set to discuss the plan with the Chamber of Advocates after Easter

Government is planning to relocate courtrooms around Valletta, MaltaToday has learned

On Monday, members of the Chamber of Advocates received an email from the lawyers’ lobby informing them about emails it received from the Justice Ministry.

In its email to members, the chamber said that the Justice Ministry informed the lobby about a plan to “relocate courtrooms around Valletta.” The chamber responded by insisting that serious discussions are needed before such a step is taken, and that no other steps should be taken before consulting with the lobby.

“The ministry responded to this communication and informed us that there will be a meeting after Easter,” Chamber of Advocates members were told.

Meanwhile, members were also told that the chamber noticed a number of questions surrounding courtrooms in the second floor of the court building in Valletta.

The chamber sent a letter to the court administration warning that the rooms should remain at the disposal of lawyers doing court-related work, and that they shouldn’t be taken away by the administration for their own use.

“The chamber has also announced that it is ready to do all that is necessary so that these rooms are still used by you as members.”

The chamber told its members that it will continue to give their interests the necessary priority.
