Cabinet has agreed to remove Żejtun’s Wied iż-Żrinġ from the development area.

In a short Facebook post, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that the process to remove the area’s designation as a development zone will kick off. The area spans some 96,000 square metres.

He thanked the farmers who work on the agricultural fields, as well as the organisation Wirt iż-Żejtun and the Żejtun Local Council for their input.

Last year, government signed a deal to ensure that the area beside the Bulebel Industrial Estate remains solely agricultural.

In 2018, the space was earmarked for an expansion of the industrial area, which caused massive public outcry due to the environmental impact it would have on the biodiversity, including the Maltese Painted Frog, in the area.
