A new public square in the centre of Msida has been opened to the public ahead of the locality's parish feast celebrations.

The opening marks a milestone in the ongoing Msida Creek Project.

The opening includes the new square and sections of the waterfront promenade, which are now accessible to residents and visitors. The areas were opened before the start of the parish feast celebrations, which began last weekend with activities for children and families, as well as preparations for the traditional Ġostra. The programme will continue with the competition's final.

Infrastructure Minister Jonathan Attard visited the site with Infrastructure Malta Chief Executive Officer Steve Ellul and representatives of the Msida Local Council to view the completed works.

Attard said the project had met its deadline for opening the square before the feast celebrations, allowing the community to make use of the space for both feast-related events and other community activities.

Although the square and surrounding public spaces are now open, work is continuing on other sections of the Msida Creek Project, including finishing works at the rear of the square to facilitate the traditional feast procession.

Attard described the opening as an important milestone in the wider regeneration project, which is expected to continue in the coming months.

Ellul said the new square covers almost 2,200sq.m, replacing an area previously occupied by four traffic lanes. He said the space is similar in size to St George's Square in Valletta and forms part of the broader redevelopment of the Msida Creek area.

Infrastructure Malta said work on the wider project will continue as planned, with the aim of completing the regeneration of the area and delivering improved public spaces and infrastructure.
