Alex Borg said the Nationalist Party will be the voice of those who are not benefitting from a booming economy but who also deserve a dignified life.

The PN leader was speaking on Sunday at a conference of experts on social issues, organised by PN MP Ivan Bartolo.

Borg said the economy must serve people, not the other way around. “There is a segment of people who are at risk of poverty and between Budgets tend to slip through the cracks,” he said.

The Opposition leader also referenced what he described as the “epidemic of solitude” affecting people from different backgrounds. He said the PN had proposed drafting a national strategy for solitude.

Ivan Bartolo warned that thousands of people are at risk of poverty and appealed for sympathy towards them. He urged people not to blame victims of poverty for their predicament.
