Pensioner demands damages for bullet-ridden car after HSBC heist

Men charged with HSBC headquarters’ heist hear of damages to car during shoot-out with police.

Two men who stand charged with a daring heist on HSBC Bank's headquarters in Qormi two years ago, appeared before a court again, to hear about the damages they caused to third party property.

Darren Debono and Vince Muscat sat unfazed as they heard pensioner Vince Muscat tell Magistrate Edwina Grima that he had to spend more than his pension to repair his car, which was riddled with bullets as it was parked outside the HSBC Bank headquarters in Qormi on June 30 2010.

More than 60 shots were fired in a shootout with police officers who foiled the heist.

Debono had been injured in his chin during the shootout.

Vince Muscat, 48, aka 'il-Kohhu', also stands charged with the attempted murder of two police officers in the daring heist. More than 60 rounds were fired at the police when they were intercepted by two police officers who responded to a call regarding a suspicious car that was parked outside the bank's driveway.
