Three men in police custody after 1.2 kilogram cocaine haul at MIA

Three men – including two Nigerians – were in police custody alter the Police Anti-Drugs Squad and the Customs Enforcement Section in a joint operation seized more than 1.2 kilograms of cocaine.

Although the discovery was made only on Thursday afternoon, the police announced the find late on Friday afternoon, more than 24 hours alter the find. The drug find was made at the Malta International Airport (MIA) in Gudja after a flight which landed from Amsterdam on Thursday afternoon.

It was during a search on a 19-year-old Spanish man that the drugs were found hidden in the man’s shoes. Further police investigations on the drug night led to the identification and arrest of two Nigerian men in connection with this case. The first Nigerian man is a 32-year-old who was residing at the Hal Far Centre, while the second Nigerian national, aged 34, was residing in Floriana.

The police discovered €2,000 in cash on the second Nigerian man. The police investigations on the case were still continuing and the apprehended men were expected to be arraigned in connection with the case in the next few days. On duty Magistrate Joseph Apap-Bologna was informed about the drug find and opened a magisterial inquiry about the matter. He appointed various experts to assist him his investigations on the case.
